Sambatpatro produces its Bikram Sambat calendar, panchanga and holiday list from its own calculations.

Tithi and panchanga

Tithi, nakshatra, yoga, karana and the lunar month are computed with the traditional Surya Siddhanta at sunrise in Kathmandu. Sunrise and sunset use modern astronomy.

Month lengths

Years that have been officially published follow the government calendar. Later years are projected from the solar sankranti and are adjusted when the official calendar is released.

Festivals and holidays

Festivals are placed by their traditional rules (for example, Ashwin Shukla Dashami). Public holidays follow the Government of Nepal's decisions and are reviewed by our editors. Festivals that depend on moon sighting, such as Eid, are confirmed once announced.
